It charts the story of "Jess" who is brought up in a cult like religon, its not JW's but it could be, it sounds almost the same. Jeanette Winterson has long been on my mental list of authors I've been meaning to get round to, and Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit seemed like an obvious place to start. Her first published novel, Oranges are Not the Only Fruit (1985) won the Whitbread award, and was adapted into a BAFTA winning TV series by the BBC in 1990. This was taken in Djemma-el-Fna Square, the famous public square in Marrakech, Morocco (which was the location for the opening scenes of Hitchcock's film "The Man Who Knew Too Much"). I found it quite an odd, and at points, challenging read. The first novel we are reading in class is Jeanette Winterson's first work, Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit. Oranges are not the only fruit.
